Why Your Attic Insulation Matters More Than You Think

Why Your Attic Insulation Matters More Than You Think

What Wildlife Really Does to Attic Insulation

Anytime we find animals in an attic, we almost always find insulation damage. Even small critters do big harm:

  • Flattening and tearing insulation to build nests

  • Soaking areas with urine (which never fully dries out)

  • Dropping feces throughout the attic

  • Dragging food, fur, and debris across the insulation

  • Creating scent trails that attract more wildlife

Even if the insulation looks “mostly okay,” it’s usually contaminated in ways you won’t notice from a ladder.

Why This Matters for Your Home

Damaged or contaminated insulation creates problems you’ll eventually feel:

  • Higher energy bills — flattened insulation loses R-value

  • Lingering odors — especially on warmer days

  • Poor air quality — contaminants can circulate through the HVAC system

  • Increased risk of another wildlife invasion — pheromones act like a welcome sign

In other words, the insulation keeps working long after the animals are gone — just not in the way you want.

What Our Attic Insulation Service Includes

When we handle insulation, we don’t just blow in new material and call it a day. We follow a full process to make sure the attic is clean, safe, and protected:

  • Inspect the entire attic for droppings, urine trails, nests, and damage

  • Remove contaminated insulation (partial or full removal depending on severity)

  • Vacuum and sanitize affected areas to eliminate bacteria and pheromones

  • Repair or replace any damaged ductwork

  • Blow in new insulation to proper depth for Texas homes (13–14 inches)

  • Seal all entry points so wildlife can’t come back

The result?
A clean, healthy attic that performs like it should — and stays that way.

When Should You Check Your Insulation?

A quick look once or twice a year is a good habit. But you should always check it if:

  • You’ve heard noises in the attic

  • You’ve had wildlife removed

  • You’ve noticed unusual odors

  • Your energy bills suddenly went up

  • A contractor told you “it looks fine” without inspecting it closely

A flashlight and a few minutes can catch problems early… or confirm you need a professional.

Not Sure What Shape Your Insulation Is In?

That’s what we’re here for.
We’ve been inspecting, cleaning, sanitizing, and replacing attic insulation in San Antonio homes for more than 13 years.

If you want to know exactly what’s going on overhead, we’ll check it out for free and show you everything we find.
